Femlab works ok, but i'm still trying to compile mesh and poisson
with f77 (f2c script). They don't seem to work. Mesh just seg. faults.
I looked at the fortran code to see what the problem was. It looks
like f2c doesn't like the impicit variable declarations.

Thanks for distributing Femlab2d-1.1. I found it when I was looking
around the internet for CFD code. I got it running on Linux 1.2.3
with X11R6 using the GNU gcc 2.6.x and f77 1.6.x compilers and make.
I wanted to give you a run-down on what it took to get femlab working
and I have some question I need to ask.
First, I'm really a non-mathematician and quasi-programer. I fooled
around with the femlab source code and make files to get it to run
under linux by:
1. Changing the make -f files in fsource.
Do those things really work for the SUN type make? They don't
have provisions for compiling the .f and c. files to .o files.
So I changed them to compile the source files to object files before
make tried to link a bunch of .o files that didn't exist. Then...
2. Startpo.o wouldn't link into poisson.
Line 3 of startpo.f was "common pri(3 000 000)" when I think
it should have been "dimension pri(3 000 000)".
Anyhow, that got everything to link and femlab began to run. But...
3. Femlab would produce a segmentation fault when it tried to return
from meshgen.
I recompiled everything with the -g debug switch and the
x-gdb debuger said femlab was dieing in geodata.c, line
number 356 in function "void rm_bnd(GEO_NODE *this)",
at a "free(this)" statement.
Someday I'll want to know why, but when you comment out that
"free(this)" statment, femlab works good enough with linux x-windows.
I'm very interested in the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations
solver module. Could I get that from you?

FEMLAB seems interesting and I really interested in the module for
incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. You also discuss a 3-D

When I looked at this guest book the first time I was quite
surprised that a small group of people managed to compile this
program. But after a few hours I succeeded myself on a Linux
machine:)))
I had to install libsx and f2c. Finally I compiled femlab with
gcc. The only changes I had to make on the source was to add
#include time.h in anim.c

the same problem of mine in trying to download your FEMLAB 2D
code: access was denied for anonymous ftp at ftp.md.chelmers.se.
As a physicist I am interested to use your code for a multilayer

I was wandering around the internet to find any free FEM software. At last I found your site. I tried to download Femlab1.1-2d via Internet but I failed.

I have learned about FEMLAB through the book on Comp. Diff. Eq.
I am a mechanical engineering student and generaly interested in numerical methods,
FE method in particular. From looking at the examples of meshes, it seems that
h-version is being implemented, are there any intensions to create p-version
for FEMLAB and will that be freely distributed also?

guess this would give problems when my memory becomes full.
What about the Navier-Stokes module. I'm very very interested in this.
Anything on the date it will be released? I'd be more than happy with a
beta release.
Could you give me a clue about where to look if I would like to add additional
equations. If I come up with something usefull I'd let you know of course.

I tried to compile the source under Linux (Red hat 6.0) using the egcs

I am feeling great that you have free Educational software for FEM. I have been trying to purchase softwares for engineering analysis of PDE's via FEA/FEM and they are beyond limit expensive for me. I am new on this ide of Atlantic(US)?
I will be using the software to solve some Electric/Magnetic vector potentials and most probably try to use your software for Electric Machine Design and mesg generation, which may have less Eddy current losses. If I come up with good result will let you know.
I am familiar with Prof. Johnson's book on FEM. I will be studying more from your site, then will write more and comments.

The research consist in analysis of vibrations in airfoils, namely a NACA airfoil. According to the new standard of modern engineering i choose FEA as the tool for studyn this phenomena. I began working with ANSYS Software, I looked at COSMOS and ALGOR, and finally I knew FEMLAB, via a teacher suggestion who talked me about it, when he loan me his book "Computational differential equations".
I really appreciate your work, in getting done a good FEA software, and, what´s best, absolutly free!
COSMOS, ANSYS, ALGOR, etc. are so uncheap and you dont get to the point when trying to know how that "black box" is working and computing equations comes out, besides FEMLAB works within MATLAB and assures you that you know what are you dealing with.
I have not been able to download "CARDS", which i do really need to complete the FEMLAB "toolbox" for starting my work.
What happens with that file, is it´s URL wrong?
Would you please mail it to me or give me another mirror site so i can finally download it?
