Assimilation

The requirement at the examination is to master
Chapters 1-5 and Parts A-I in Section 1 in Chapter 9
in Williams:Weighing the Odds.

Here are a few hints:

- Make a rapid, but hopefully stimulating, reading
right away of the Preface and Chapter 1; the
lectures will start with Chapter 2, but Chapter 1
will be used later as a resource.

-   Read with  the precision of the book; nothing
more will be required at the exam!

- This is a course in probability theory. There are
many fine examples of applications,  but it will not
be required at the exam that you master other areas
than probability theory.

- Also, it is likely that we go directly from Chapter 4
to the part of Chapter 9 that is a contained in the course,
and then finish with Chapter 5.

- Notice that there are hints at the back of the book
on certain exercises!
