TMS031 Design of Experiments (Spring 2014)

The web page includes:

Course description

This course is taken by master students as well as PhD students. The course Spring 2014 will be lectured Tuesdays 10:00-11:45 and Thursdays 8:00-11:45 from January 21 to March 6. The lectures will be given at the Department of Mathematical Sciences in room MVH11. Note that we won't have any lectures on Thursday, January 23, and we may have to reschedule these.

The written exam will take place March 12.

The Design of Experiments course approaches the problem how to plan a number of trials to obtain required information. Is it at all possible to obtain the information in question within the given resources? How valid is the information taken the model uncertainty and the scatter of the trials into account? To vary one factor at a time can be a very dangerous strategy when interactions between the factors are present.

Within the course, analysis of variance and multiple linear regression are studied in the context of factorial designs at two and more levels. Fractional factor designs, block designs, randomization and response surface methods are discussed as well.

Lecturers:

Aila Särkkä
