Workshop on
Branching in Biology Gothenburg, 22-26 May, 2005 Practical information
How to find the meeting Most of the symposium takes place at
Hörsalen (the Auditorium) On Tuesday, 24 May, the workshop will move to Jonsereds Herrgård, a mansion at a lake a couple of kilometres north east of Gothenburg. On Wednesday afternoon, there is an excursion to Marstrand, a wooden island town with a 17th Century fortress. A map of Chalmers' campus area can be found here. The Mathematics Centre is at the bottom of the map. A bigger map, covering Chalmers, Villa Fridolin, and the Mathematics Centre can be found here . The Chalmers Guest House and Hotel Ljungbacken are in the immediate vicinity of the Mathematics Centre.
Airport buses etc. : The easiest way of
reaching Gothenburg centre is by the Airport bus, which you
find just outside the airport building. Depending on the time
of day, it leaves every 15 or 30 minutes. The price is
SEK 70 one way, and it is possible use a credit card. How to arrive at Chalmers : There is a good description on how to reach Chalmers at the Chalmers web page here . The description takes you to the main entrance of Chalmers, which is situated on the upper left part of the campus map ("Huvudentren"), and some 700 metres from the Mathematics Centre.
Thus, its advicable rather to go either directly to
your accomodation or
to the Mathematics Centre: For the latter, and thus also the
Chalmers Guest House and Hotel Ljungbacken, you
catch bus 49 or 52 (towards "Linnéplatsen") from Korsvägen
(the first airport bus stop), and alight
at "Pilbågsgatan". On the Chalmers
map, it is the bus stop in the triangle in the lower right
corner. You see the Maths Centre, it is a yellow brick building.
Go there, and you will be directed to the Guest Hose or Ljungbacken.
Accomodation Guests will stay at
Villa Fridolin
Hotell Ljungbacken
The Chalmers Guest House A map of the neighborhood of Villa Fridolin can be found here. The hotel is marked with a filled red circle in the middle of the map. To reach Chalmers from Villa Fridolin, you walk Viktor Rydbergsgatan up from Högåsplatsen until you reach Vidblicksgatan, which takes you down to Gibraltargatan, the long street to the right of the Chalmers map. The path is marked with a green line on the map. It should take about 15 minutes to walk from Villa Fridolin to the Mathematics Centre. To find Villa Fridolin when coming from the airport, you take the airport bus and alight at Park Avenue (the second stop). This is marked with a black circle on the map, and the shortest foot path is marked with a red line. You walk towards the art museum, follow the stairs to the right between the museum and the "Konsthallen". You have then reached Ekmansgatan on the map. At the corner of Ekmansgatan and Skyttegatan, there is a new set of stairs, that take you directly to Högåsplatsen. You can also take bus number 42 or 45, indicated by a blue line on the map. There is a stop at Terrassgatan. Note that after leaving the airport bus, you then have to cross the street to find the bus in the right direction. These buses continue to the Mathematics Centre.

Breakfast is included at Villa Fridolin and Hotel Ljungbacken. Coffee will be served before (with a sandwich) and after noon. At Jonsereds Herrgård lunch is included. A light lunch will be served on the boat to Marstrand and dinner at Grand Hotel Marstrand on Wednesday.
Lecture halls The Auditorim is equipped with black boards, over head projectors for transparencies, and a digital projector for computer presentations. Jonsereds Herrgård has a whiteboard but no good old blackboard. Please inform us if you have special needs for the presentation, or if you want to use a board heavily and thus rather talk at the Maths Centre.
