Graduate Course in WEAK CONVERGENCE OF PROBABILITY MEASURES (6 Credits) (Fifth announcement) Introductory Meeting Second (main) Part of Course: Weak Convergence ==================== We have a short introductory meeting, in room S1 (=room 1305), at math centre, Monday Week 12, 18 March 12.30. Purpose of meeting is to agree on two weekly two-hour sessions, to be used for lectures. People who cannot come to introductory meeting should email me their preferences regarding times. Course is planned to commence with at least one lecture already week 12. Literature will be the second edition of a classical book from 1968 ========== BILLINGSLEY: CONVERGENCE OF PROBABILITY MEASURES, Second Ed., Wiley 1999. I will be able to supply xerox copies, for temporary use, in needed. There will be an emphasis on presenting the material in a probabilistic manner (but also not forgetting possibly deeper mathematics behind, when aware of such, at least by means of mentioning it, if no more). Grading Proceedures and Language ================================ We use hand-ins (inlämningsuppgifter), unless most participants disagree. Course will be thaught in english, unless all paticipants are Swedes. Prerequisites Basic Lebesgue integration (probabilistically or mathema- ============= tically thaught), together with basic metric topology. The prerequisite "basic Lebesgue integration" cannot be waived. Regarding "basic metric topology", the first part of Appendix M, pp. 236-244 in Billingsleys book, should be enough as a minimal background, and could readily be taken in by anyone who has Lebesgue integrated. Best regards and wellcome, Patrik Albin
