In the walkthrough below, all English labels have their Swedish counterparts written in italics in parentheses.
Note that one cannot link a private test course in Canvas (no matter whether at GU or at Chalmers) to Möbius because the needed Möbius-app is not installed in the testing environment. On the other hand, one can use the guide below to prepare everything (but the actual link) even in the test course, while the link can be created later when all the content has been moved to the real course page.
Create a module
Note: This needs to be done only once provided that all the duggor will be placed in the newly created module.
Step 1
Go to Modules (Moduler) and click on the "+ Module"-button ("+ Modul").
Step 2
Name the module and click on "+ Add prerequisite" ("+ Lägg till förutsättning")
Step 3 (IMPORTANT FOR MÖBIUS AND POSSIBLY OTHER PAGES THAT ARE NOT TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO A WIDE PUBLIC)
Choose the gateway module as a prerequisite.
Note: If you skipped this step, then everybody with a CID (or an x-account) would be able to open any Möbius-dugga in your course.
Steps 4..n-1
Create (and publish) contents of the module.
Step n
Make sure to publish all the items that the students are supposed to have access to and then publish the module.
Create an assignment for a Möbius-dugga
Note: This can be done only after you have created a module for the duggor.
Step 1
Create a new item in the module by clicking on the "+" button next to the name of the module.
Step 2
1. An Assignment (Uppgift) is to be added.
2. A [ New assignment ] ([ Ny uppgift ]) is to be added (unless
you have already created the dugga-assignment beforehand by other means)
3. Name the assignment
4. Click the button to create the item.
Step 3
Click on the assignment's name to open it to be able to set up the details.
Step 4
Click on the Edit button to set up the details.
Step 5
1. Write instructions for the students. (See a sample text at insidan.) You might also want to
add a warning that there is a short delay before the
results get transferred from Möbius to Canvas.
2. The number of points must be equal to the number of points the dugga
has in Möbius. (Strictly speaking, it doesn't have to be equal, but the
score would be rescaled linearly and you would have to answer to
confused students.)
3. If you're using assignment groups, you can choose the group here. If
not, keep the default value.
4. Here you choose how the result is to be presented to the students
when they open the gradebook: Points (Poäng), Percentage (Procent),
or Letter Grade (Bokstavsomdöme) work fine. You can use the
Letter Grade to show to the student in the gradeboook that they have
passed (or not) - More on that below.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES use the Complete/Incomplete grade (Färdig/Ännu
inte färdig) for Möbius-duggor because every non-zero score
would be displayed as "Complete".
5. Submission type is External tool (Externt verktyg). Note that
this will NOT work in your private test course. (If working in your test
course, keep "No submission" (Ingen inlämning) and skip to Step
7)
6. Click on the button Find (Hitta) to select the tool.
Step 6 (does NOT work in private test courses)
1. Select the MV Möbius tool
2. In case the URL is not filled in automatically, then enter
https://chalmers.mapleserver.com:443/mv-mobius/lti/
3. Check that the tool opens in a new tab (Öppna i ny flik).
4. Click on the Select-button (Välj)
Step 7
Set the dates:
1. Due (Färdig) is a soft deadline. This date
is listed in the To-Do list and on the Syllabus-page (Kursöversikt).
Note that the students will be able to open and work on the assignment
also after this date has passed.
2. Available from (Tillgänglig från) is the date when the
students get access to the assignment.
3. Until (Tills) is the hard deadline. After
this date, the students will not be able to open and work on the
assignment.
Step 8 (does NOT work in private test courses)
In order to create to link between Canvas and Möbius, the teacher needs to open the assignment.
Step 9 (does NOT work in private test courses)
Now, you've come to the Möbius interface.
1. Pick the class
2. Pick the assignment
3. Link to the assignment
Show Pass/No pass in the list of modules
You can let Canvas show in the Modules whether the student has passed a dugga. In the screenshot below, the test student has passed Dugga 1, but not Dugga 2. (Both duggor were worth 7 points and the threshold for passing was set to 6 points.)
Step 1
In Modules, open the menu of the Duggor-module by clicking on the three dots button and choose Edit (Redigera).
Step 2
Click on "+ Add requirement" (+ Lägg till krav) for each dugga whose result is to be shown in modules
Step 3
For each dugga, set up a condition for the pass grade. Then, press the "Update module"-button (Uppdatera modul)
Step 4 (the popup might not show up in courses that haven't been published yet)
Do NOT re-lock modules (unless you are using the module's requirements to lock up other modules in order to enforce the sequence in which the students complete the course-work.)
Show Pass/No Pass-grade in the gradebook
You can let Canvas show in the Gradebook whether the student has passed a dugga. In the screenshot below, the test student has passed Dugga 1, but not Dugga 2. (Both duggor were worth 7 points and the threshold for passing was set to 6 points, or rather 85.6%)
Step 0
If you haven't set up the grading schemes yet, do it now. See the walkthrough below.
Step 1
Edit the assignment where you want to use a grading scheme. (See Steps
3 & 4 of creating a dugga-assignment above.)
1. Choose Letter Grade (Bokstavsomdöme)
2. Click on View grading scheme (Visa omdömesschema)
Step 2
Click on Select another scheme (Välj ett annat schema)
Step 3
Select the grading scheme you want to use and click on the button "Use this grading standard" (Använd det här omdömesschemat).
Step 4
Click on the Done-button (Färdig). Do not forget to Save the assignment.
Create grading schemes
Step 1
Edit any assignment. (See Steps 3 & 4 of creating a
dugga-assignment above.) There is no point in doing any changes to the
assignment at this moment because the changes will NOT be saved.
1. Choose Letter Grade (Bokstavsomdöme)
2. Click on View grading scheme (Visa omdömesschema)
Step 2
Scroll down in the pop-up window and click on "manage grading schemes" (hanterar omdömesscheman)
Step 3
Click on the "+ Add Grading Schemes button"-button (+ Lägg till omdömesschema)
Step 4
1. Name the grading scheme
2. Delete all unnecessary grades by clicking on × on the right hand side
and then set up the grades and threshold(s) as needed. In the
screenshot, the threshold is set to 85.6% which corresponds to 6 points
out of 7 (with a margin of error at 0.1%). The text in the column "Name"
is what will be shown in the gradebook.
3. Save the grading scheme.
