Project Course in Computational Mathematics, for Kf1, 2000



General information:

This is the first part of a 2 credit points project course on Computational/Engineering Mathematics. The course is designed for the first year students in "Chemical Engineering with Engineering Physics" program and spread in all 4 periods of the year. Period 1 consists of 14 lecture hourse introducing some basis of computational mathematics.

During the first period will not follow a particular text. However, copies of my lecture notes will be available.



Weekly program:

$\circ$ Week 1: Induction, trigonometry,

$\circ$ Week 2: Arithmetic and geometric series, bisection

$\circ$ Week 3: Recursive sequences, limit, continuity, fixed-point iterations

$\circ$ Week 4: Hypotetical computer, machine epsilon, floating point arithmetic

$\circ$ Week 5: Derivative, sensitivity analysis, primitive functions

$\circ$ Week 6: Introduction to linear algebra, vectors, scalar-vector and tripple products

$\circ$ Week 7: Linear equation system, Gauss elimination algorithm
