Three lecture and lab sessions have not yet been fixed in TimeEdit. Please, bring your calendar to the first lecture.

Registration

I am not allowed to register anyone. But I do keep a private list of participants to track assignments and to report results.

For this, I need name, person number, and school.

Examination

After passing all assignments you receive a passing grad (i.e. 3 or G). If you would like to get a higher grade, you have to pass a combined oral and written exam. You are guaranteed a grad of 3 or G, regardless of how you perform during the exam.

Oral examination will take place on June 1, 2016. The written one takes place the day before. About two weeks before the exam, I will assign time slots to all interested in taking the exam. I will consult with all interested student on their availability.

After deciding on the grad, I will inform you by mail.

Note that PhD students usually do not any examination, since their grading scheme covers one passed grad. Inform yourself on whether this is the case for your PhD program.

Examination procedure

To each student that I examine, I will send by mail a set of four tasks or problems, 24 hours before his or her time slot for the oral examination. Examinees have to work on them individually, and bring their solution for the oral exam. In particular, you need to show well-explained solutions for the hand written solutions, and bring the code on an USB stick that allows for quick transfer of your solutions or email it before you come to my office. More detailed instructions will be part of the problem set, and will resemble the ones for usual assignments.

The content of the problem set that you will receive largely follows what was done in the assignments. Exam tasks will include computer based work, but also may comprise hand written exercise. In particular, you have to make sure that you have computer access during the time you work on the exam problems.

During the oral exam you will have to answer questions on your solutions and on the lectures content for 15 minutes. These slots are sharp: The next slot may immediately follow.
