The examination consists of two take home problem-solving examinations and a written examination with theoretical and problem-solving questions. Allowed material for the written examination is Beta Mathematics Handbook.

The take home examinations are strictly individual assignments. Submissions that bear signs of being collective efforts will be disregarded.

There are totally 50 points in the examination, 15 for each take home examination and 20 for the written examination.

To pass the course, the student needs to score at least 6 points in each take home examination and at least 8p in the written examination.

The passing grade in MVE170 is 3, if the total number of points scored is in the interval [20, 29], and 5, if this number is at least 40 provided the student has scored at least 12p in each take home examination and at least 16p in the written examination. In the rest of cases the passing grade is 4.

The passing grade in MSG800 is VG, if the total number of points scored is at least 40 provided the student has scored at least 12p in each take home examination and at least 16p in the written examination. In the rest of cases the passing grade is G.
