Applied optimization/Optimization (5 credits)

This page is created as a student support for the course Applied Optimization (codes TMA947 for Chalmers and MAN280 for GU).     Project assignment I: Modelling (Corrected 24 January 2006)

    PM for the first part: PS or PDF.

    060120: Two small corrections have been made in the PM. The first one is in Table 4, where the second and fourth columns have been switched. The second correction is that all trading of non-dried products take place in the facility in Mölndal (bottom of page 8). You do not have to change your model even if you did not include this assumption.

    060124: Some numbers in table 5, 9 and 10 have been corrected. This change does affect the first part of the project.

    Handing in:

    The model assignment is handed in to one of the assistants. Please write the report in LaTeX, Word, or FrameMaker. Deadline: January 27!

    Project assignment II: The optimal plan, with a sensitivity analysis (posted 8 February 2006)

    The necessary AMPL-files are: thick.mod and thick.dat.

    Due to some license issues we do not yet have AMPL installed in the new building; therefore the computations have to be done via AMPL's Web interface which can be found at www.ampl.com. (You can also try downloading the AMPL Student Edition if you want). The ampl aid document is written for local execution of AMPL, but the differences are small. You cannot use .run-files, however if you want to use scripts you can write them directly into the command window of the Web interface. If there are any questions, ask one of the assistants.

    If you send in project reports and/or computer exercise reports via email, please send them as pdf or ps.

    Handing in:

    The complete report is handed in to one of the assistants. Please write the report in LaTeX, Word, or FrameMaker. Deadline: February 21!

    Computer exercise 2: Constrained optimization (posted 21 February 2006)

    The description is found here: PS or PDF. The necessary MATLAB-files (zipped) are here. To unpack the archive, type unzip lab2_2006.zip in shell prompt.

    Notice that the new files are corrected (060221) versions of those that were originally posted on 16 February.

    As we speak, we do not have access to the original source file for this PM, so dates, course codes and computer rooms are not as stated on the first page.

    Deadline for handing in the report, unless passed through oral examination on site during the scheduled session on 21 February: 28 February!
