Literature

Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists, by Petruccelli, Nandram and Chen. Prentice Hall, 1999

Course Material

We will cover chapters 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 from the book plus some extra material on inference.

Examination

The examination consists of a written exam and 3 projects. The first project can give max 5 points and the second and third max 10 points. The written exam gives max 30 points. The total max points that somebody can get is 55. To pass the course you need to obtain at least 12 points in the written exam. Then you need 22 points for 3, 33 points for 4 and 44 points for 5. The final is on October the 25th.

Projects

In the course we will have 3 obligatory projects. The group report will be handed in paper (not electronically). To see how to write a scientific report click here. The first page should contain the groupname, names and personal numbers of the people in the group and be signed by everybody. Project 1 can give you maximum 5 points, projects 2 and 3 can give 10 points. You need to pass the written exam in order to pass the course, then the project points are added to your exam score to give your final grade. It is important that you collect your projects after they have been graded since you have only one (1!) week to claim any extra points. After the week has passed your points on the project have been recorded and they DO NOT change!

Project 1 is to do Lab 4.2 (use a 6 sided dice) and 4.3 in the book. Last date to submit is the 18th of September. Project 2 is the project in chapter 6 (instructions in ch. 5). The latest on September 23rd you should submit a plan for project 2, see the schedule for more details. A correct plan gives you 1 of the 10 points that you can get from project 2. Project 3 is the miniproject of chapter 7, pp 436.
